Do I need a TWIC and MMC?

No, a TWIC and MMC documentation is not required to apply and be eligible for the program but will be required if selected for the program.

Do I need to pay for transportation?

STAR Center will provide air travel, if appropriate, for those candidates selected for formal interview.

If selected for the program, transportation is the candidate's responsibility from their home to STAR Center, Dania Beach, Florida for the start of the program. The nearest airport is Fort Lauderdale (FLL).

Covered transportation costs will begin from arrival at STAR Center and will cover travel between school and ships as required by the program.

Any personal travel during the program is NOT covered.

What if I don't like the program and want to leave - will I owe money or time?

There are no refunds for initial monies paid. If uniforms are issued, there is no refund for them. You may leave the program at any time that you feel you are no longer interested in going to sea. Your reimbursement obligation would be determined by how far along the program you have progressed.

Travel from STAR Center to home in such cases is the responsibility of the candidate.

What are the cadet wages?

Cadet wages are approximately $1,006.80 per month, paid during "at sea" phases only.

What is the stipend I will receive during the class portion of the program?

The stipend for classroom training is $25 per week for the first phase of classroom training and $30 per week for all subsequent classroom phases, paid monthly.

What if I have a family/health emergency?

Candidates can't leave the program and come back - once started, every class must be attended. Classes cannot be missed for any reason.

What is the commitment?

You must sail an average of 182 days per year, or company rotation, for five years with AMO once you have a 3 A/E license.
