Mountwest Community and Technical College

Mountwest Community and Technical College (MCTC) is an independent community college serving the metropolitan Huntington, West Virginia area. It is accredited as an independent community college by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and is one of nine regional community colleges in the West Virginia Community and Technical College System. STAR Center students can work directly with MCTC, in order to earn academic credit for successful completion of STAR Center courses. These college credits may be applied towards the awarding of an Associate of Applied Science degree in Technical Studies: Marine Technology; issued by MCTC.

Students completing STAR Center training courses may enroll online with MCTC as a degree-seeking student. They would submit a portfolio to the college containing copies of course certificates for completed STAR Center courses and (as applicable) college transcripts for additional college courses completed outside of STAR Center.

MCTC would potentially recognize specified U.S. Coast Guard approved courses taught at STAR Center for academic credit. The college will evaluate this information and subsequently inform the prospective student as to how many total credit hours can be awarded for these.
