Job description

STAR Center is currently seeking a Fire Fighting and Military Sealift Command (MSC) Course Manager who will be responsible for the delivery and development of US Coast Guard and MSC firefighting approved course curriculum to our merchant mariner students. This position is responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and oversight of our onsite fire field and equipment, located at STAR Center in Dania Beach FL. This person will act as a subject matter expert in these areas and communicate relevant advances as they apply.

Requirements include:

  • Graduate of a 4-year accredited college program leading to a Bachelor of Science/Engineering in Marine Engineering or Transportation or other related major field or equivalent military experience especially as damage controlman (preferred).
  • Equivalent experience may be substituted for the above

Capabilities of applicant to include:

  • Instruct courses in assigned subject areas in accordance with USCG, MSC requirements and the organization’s Quality Management System to all customers
  • Maintain STAR’s firefighting and MSC course equipment as designated
  • Maintain inventory of equipment and insure replenishable equipment (such as SCBA air bottles, propane and fire extinguishers) is ready for all scheduled classes
  • Coordinate attendance with and provide oversight of instructors on the fire field
  • Carryout curriculum development and research
