Mountwest Community and Technical College
Accepts Selected Star Center Courses
for Awarding of College Credits

STAR Center has entered into an affiliation agreement with Mountwest Community and Technical College (MCTC) of Huntington, West Virginia.

The purpose of the agreement is to provide an avenue for STAR Center students to earn academic credit for successful completion of STAR Center

courses. These college credits may be applied towards the awarding of an Associate of Applied Science degree in Technical Studies: Marine Technology;

 issued by Mountwest Community and Technical College.

Under this new agreement, students completing STAR Center training courses may enroll online with MCTC as a degree-seeking student. Prospective

students submit a portfolio to the college containing copies of course certificates for completed STAR Center courses;  and (as applicable) college transcripts

for additional college courses completed outside of STAR Center.

Mountwest will recognize specified U.S. Coast Guard approved courses taught at STAR Center for academic credit. The college will evaluate this information

and subsequently inform the prospective student as to how many total credit hours can be awarded for these completed courses.

If desired, providing a copy of the student’s USCG maritime license will allow MCTC to award additional credits based on the level of licensure.

Students will also need to successfully complete 21 credit hours in general education courses from Mountwest, in addition to the completed STAR Center

courses. Selected general education courses can be completed online, at a cost of $119.50 per credit hour.

Designated administrative fees normally assessed to MCTC students, such as the “application” fee, “portfolio” fee, etc. have been waived for AMO/STAR students

under this articulation agreement.

Students may also be eligible to apply to receive financial aid for classes taken at MCTC.
